Commencement 2014

Notre Dame Seminary celebrated commencement exercises on May 8, 2014, awarding M.Div. and M.A. degrees. The ceremony was hosted on Shulte Hall in which over 250 people were in attendance. Archbishop Aymond, chancellor of the seminary, presided over the exercises presenting the degrees to each candidate. Father Wehner, rector, presented to the chancellor Mrs. Gayle Benson for the doctorate in letters. Mrs. Benson has been a tremendous friend and supporter of the seminary as well as a highly recognizes community leader both in the Church and the wider community. Mrs. Benson is the first lay woman to be honored with the doctorate degree. Archbishop Aymond, in his concluding remarks, thanked the lay students for the commitment to leadership in the Church and their willingness to the new evangelization as teachers, catechetical leaders, and collaborators with their pastors. He challenged the soon-to-be-priests that their formation was ultimately directed the pastoral care of the faithful and that their teaching authority was to gather the flock rather than disperse it. Graduation ceremonies concluded the 90th anniversary of Notre Dame Seminary which opened its doors in 1923.
