Seminarians Visit Pope Without Missing Classes

Forty-eight seminarians from Notre Dame Seminary set out this morning on a 20+ hour bus ride to attend the canonization Mass of (soon-to-be Saint) Junipero Serra in Washington, D.C. Pope Francis will canonize the Spanish missionary on September 23 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Back at the seminary, though, classes continue as usual, and, thanks to the marvels of the modern world, several men are attending their classes through video web conferences from the bus. These men are able to take the opportunity to be present in person at the canonization while keeping up in the rigorous academic schedule at Notre Dame Seminary. Conversely, the men who stayed behind will have the opportunity to watch the canonization on television and attend classes in person. Thanks to NDS’s adoption of these technologies, all members of the NDS community are able to have a presence at both classes and the Mass.
