On September 28, NDS held its annual Oktoberfest celebration. A German schola led seminarians in traditional German drinking songs, and seminarians were treated to German libations, bratwursts, and giant pretzels. The rector, Fr. Wehner, led the seminary in the celebrated Schnitzelbank song (with some surprise lines inserted). The winner of the competition that followed of tossing water balloons across the pool would be treated to dinner for the balloon-tossing team with the rector at a steakhouse. Finally, the community capped off the night with Water Wars: a game of capture-the-flag with squirt guns and water balloons. Each player had to return to his base to respawn with a fresh t-shirt up to two times if he were hit with water. The team which emerged from the battle across the darkness of the NDS campus with the most flags by the end of the hour won. The fighting was fierce, but Team Pretzel came out victorious.
