On the evening of February 26, 2025, the NDS community celebrated the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, or Tết Festival. The seminary welcomed several priests, deacons, and laity from the Vietnamese Catholic community around New Orleans who joined us for Mass followed by a celebration and dinner. The chapel was decorated beautifully with traditional handmade flowers from one of the guests, and the mass was said primarily in Vietnamese, as was the liturgical music. We welcomed the recently ordained Fr. Cuong Tran back to the seminary to preach a moving homily on the witness of the Vietnamese martyrs. It was a beautiful immersion into Vietnamese culture and the deep faith of Vietnamese Catholics. Many of the seminarians noted how beautiful it was to see the Church still recognizable even within a different cultural expression. It was especially important to our Vietnamese seminarians who were able to share more of their heritage and culture with the NDS community.
