Putting On The New Man, Vol. 2: David Furka and David Doyle Profiles of New NDS Seminarians

By: Jason Songe, Seminarian, Archdiocese of New Orleans

Putting On The New Man is a series of the NDS Blog that will introduce the new faces you see in the seminary.

DAVID FURKA

My name is David Furka, and I’m a T1 from the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana. I’ve recently come to love to pray to St. Lucy for purity of sight. My favorite, but perhaps obscure, movie is Memento. My favorite Scripture verse is Hosea 11:4– “I led them with cords of compassion, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who raises an infant to his cheeks, and I bent down to them and fed them.” I want to be a priest that I may be consecrated to Christ and lovingly guide His people to Him. My favorite spiritual books are the writings of St. John of the Cross. Interesting happening: I climbed a mountain whilst poison ivy sores covered half of my body. Vocation story: God invited me to prayer. I love watching movies, reading books, and playing the occasional rec sports or card games.

DAVID DOYLE

My name is David Doyle, and I am entering First Theology for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Two of my saints who have been close to me recently are St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Patrick. While I don’t have a favorite movie, I could watch Les Misérables anytime. Jeremiah 29:11-13 is one scripture passage that has been an important part of my journey. I want to be a priest to bring God to his people, and to bring his people to him, to bring all people to heaven. One of my favorite spiritual books is Death on a Friday Afternoon, by Richard John Neuhaus. The best, and most interesting, thing that has happened to me is getting a text from a friend telling me to apply for a job working for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Vocation story: I was hit in the head and stopped running. My hobbies and interests are music–I love singing and playing the organ, along with cooking and baking.
