Rev. Robert J. Stahl, S.M. Memorial Library
The Rev. Robert J. Stahl, S.M. Memorial Library is located in St. Joseph Hall and occupies three floors of the building. The library’s main reading room, writing lab, and internet research center are located on the first floor. The primary print collection is housed on two levels of stack shelving, while a dedicated reference room contains the periodicals collection. The Scriptorium, located on the ground floor, is a large, quiet study space with numerous desks, computers, sofas, and armchairs.
The book and periodical collections reflect the seminary’s mission, purpose, and objectives, supporting the four pillars of priestly formation. The library’s holdings include more than 95,000 volumes, among them approximately 12,000 bound periodicals, as well as subscriptions to around 150 periodical titles, most of which are peer-reviewed academic journals. In addition to its print resources, the library provides electronic access to many of these journals, along with a growing collection of web-based periodicals, databases, and other digital resources. Since many of these resources are hosted remotely, seminarians and students can access research materials and information both on and off campus. For research or other specialized projects, seminarians and students of Notre Dame Seminary can also borrow books from other libraries through LALINC (Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium).
Seminarians and students enrolled in the school respect the honor system and enjoy unrestricted access to the library until 11:00 pm. The library also extends borrowing privileges to Notre Dame Seminary alumni, members of the religious community at large, and students attending schools in the LALINC/LOUIS system. For LALINC/LOUIS patrons, the following policies apply: (1) An appointment with the librarian must be made by calling (504) 866-7426, ext. 6217, or via email at library@nds.edu. (2) A patron barcode must be issued by the librarian. (3) Books are loaned for three weeks and may be renewed once.
The bibliographic holdings of the library are fully accessible through the online catalog found at https://ndslibrary.follettdestiny.com/
