Priestly Formation

Formation Overview

Priestly formation is a comprehensive process designed to prepare men for the ministerial priesthood by integrating human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral dimensions. The “Program of Priestly Formation, 6th edition” (PPF) serves as the guiding document for seminaries in the United States, outlining the stages and expectations of this formation. Throughout the course of a seminarian’s years in formation, he is expected to grow and develop in certain areas by striving for the benchmarks and thresholds set out in the PPF. Once he has demonstrated a facility with those benchmarks and thresholds in a given stage, he will be promoted to a further stage of formation aimed at deepening and strengthening these virtues and characteristics.
