Professor of Sacred Scripture

Dr. Brant Pitre, a native of Houma, LA, holds a Ph.D. in Theology with a specialization in New Testament and Ancient Judaism from the University of Notre Dame (2004), an M.T.S. in Biblical Studies from Vanderbilt University (1999), and a B.A. in Philosophy and English Literature from Louisiana State University (1997). He is the author of several articles and two books: Jesus, the Tribulation, and the End of the Exile (Mohr Siebeck-Baker Academic, 2005), and Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist (Doubleday, 2011). Dr. Pitre considers it a great privilege to teach future priests. His primary goal is to help seminarians fall in love with Sacred Scripture so that it might truly be for them “the soul of sacred theology” (Vatican II, Dei Verbum 24). He currently lives in Gray, LA with his wife Elizabeth and their five children.
