Professor of Sacred Scripture

Dr. Nathan Mastnjak joined the faculty at Notre Dame Seminary in 2019 as Professor of Sacred Scripture. He has previously taught at Indiana University (2015 to 2018) and Brandeis University (2018) and was a Harry Starr Fellow in Judaica at Harvard University (2018 to 2019).

Dr. Mastnjak received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East from the University of Chicago in 2015. He research and writing focuses on the prophetic literature of the Old Testament. His first book, Deuteronomy and the Emergence of Textual Authority in Jeremiah was published in 2016 by Mohr Siebeck. His second book, The Scrolls of the Prophets, is currently in preparation. Dr. Mastnjak has also published a number of articles in scholarly journals, including Biblical Interpretation, The Catholic Biblical Quarterly, The Journal of Religion, and Vetus Testamentum.
