Reverend Philip Neri Powell, Ph.D.
Department Chair and Director of Homiletics; Professor of Philosophy and Homiletics
Father Powell was appointed Director of Homiletics of Notre Dame Seminary by Archbishop Gregory Aymond on July 1, 2013. He completed the M.Div. at the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis with a year of graduate work in philosophy and theology at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford University. Ordained a priest for the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres in 2005, Fr. Powell’s first assignment was to the campus ministry program at the University of Dallas where he also taught in both the English and theology departments. From 2008 to 2010, he attended the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum), where he completed a licentiate in the philosophy of science. For the past two years, Fr. Powell has served St. Dominic Parish in New Orleans as parochial vicar. He holds the Ph.D. in literature from Ole Miss.
