Chancellor’s Dinner

Notre Dame Seminary held its fourth annual Chancellor’s Dinner on Monday, March 5th where the seminary community and friends of NDS gathered to honor Archbishop Alfred C. Hughes, Archbishop Emeritus of New Orleans, as he celebrated sixty years of priestly ministry to our Church. Held on the grounds of Notre Dame Seminary, the Chancellor’s Dinner began with a cocktail reception, where guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and conversation. Following the cocktail reception, guests made their way into the Chapel where Fr. James A. Wehner, Rector/President of Notre Dame Seminary, welcomed guests, including special guest, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston, and many bishops to begin the presentation to Archbishop Hughes. Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, the Chancellor of Notre Dame Seminary, spoke about Archbishop Hughes’ undying love for the Church and for the priesthood. Archbishop Aymond recalled Archbishop Hughes’ years as Archbishop of New Orleans and thanked him for saying “yes” to God’s call sixty years ago and for continuing to say “yes” every day. Fr. Wehner and Archbishop Aymond presented Archbishop Hughes with the St. John Vianney Award for being an exemplary model of priestly virtue. In residence at Notre Dame Seminary, Archbishop Hughes continues to instill in seminarians those virtues necessary for a good priest in his service as a professor and spiritual director. After the award presentation, guests enjoyed an incredible dinner in Schulte Auditorium served by the seminarians of Notre Dame Seminary. Special thanks to our NDS volunteers, staff, faculty and seminarians for their work in making this such a special celebration.
