Seminary Organist & Coordinator of Liturgical Music
Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans invites well-qualified applicants for the position of Seminary Organist and Coordinator of Liturgical Music from 1 July 2024 (or sooner, if mutually agreeable). This is a full-time, salaried position, serving the second-largest Roman Catholic theologate in the American seminary system. Responsibilities include preparing and leading three sung liturgies daily, Monday-Friday, Sunday Mass, as well as Sunday Solemn Vespers. There are no sung liturgies on Saturdays. The Seminary Organist and Coordinator of Liturgical Music rehearses, prepares, and directs the Schola Cantorum which presently meets for class twice each week. The successful applicant will be familiar with a broad-spectrum of Roman Catholic liturgical music, but will necessarily have extensive experience with Gregorian Chant, English and Spanish plainchant, vernacular (English and Spanish) hymnody, and similar forms of service music (chant and metrical). The Seminary celebrates Mass in Latin (Novus Ordo), English, and Spanish.
The Seminary’s landmark Fratelli Ruffatti pipe organ, installed in the summer of 2022, will be dedicated in the Fall of 2024, with the completion of the renovation of the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. The organ consists of 34 ranks, two expressive divisions, and digital additions.
