Putting On The New Man, Vol. 1: Albert Blount and Joseph Rivera Profiles of New NDS Seminarians

By: Jason Songe, Seminarian, Archdiocese of New Orleans

Putting On The New Man is a series of the NDS Blog that will introduce the new faces you see in the seminary.

ALBERT BLOUNT

My name is Albert Blount. I’m from the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and I am entering into First Theology. The saints I turn to for intercession most often are St. Elizabeth of the Trinity and St. John Paul II. My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption and two of my favorite spiritual books are The Screwtape Letters and The Cantata of Love. Two of my favorite Scripture verses are John 15:9 and the first part of John 17:24: “Father, they are your gift to me.” My favorite hobbies are photography and reading good literature, but I have recently taken an interest in poetry. One of the randomly interesting things about me is that I fell off of the back of a truck that was going thirty miles per hour and walked about with minimal damage, that is, after the right side of my face finished healing. I heard the call to be a priest when I believed, for the first time, that I am Beloved Son of God. I desire to be a priest because I believe that Christ has called me to live out my baptism through the priesthood. I believe that Christ has given me a heart with a great capacity to love his people and a great desire to be configured to him as priest.

JOSEPH RIVERA

My name is Joseph Rivera. I’m from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. I am entering T1. One or two of my favorite saints are St. Paul and St. Teresa of Calcutta. My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting. My favorite quote or Scripture verse is Romans 8:28. I want to be a priest because as a priest, I desire to love God and others, the way that my Heavenly Father intimately loves me. One or two of my favorite spiritual books are The Power Of Silence and Life of Moses. The most interesting thing that has ever happened to me is that I was found lodging on top of a mountain at a Dominican Cloistered Monastery on an island in Greece. My vocation story in seven words or less: Deus Providebit. Amen. Peace of Heart. My favorite hobbies and interests are praying, reading, guitar, walking, jogging, running, swimming, biking, and good music.
