Putting On The New Man, Vol. 3: Parker Thompson and Austin Young Profiles of New NDS Seminarians

By: Jason Songe, Seminarian, Archdiocese of New Orleans

Putting On The New Man is a series of the NDS Blog that will introduce the new faces you see in the seminary.

PARKER THOMPSON

My name is Parker Thompson from the diocese of Dallas, Texas. I am starting T1. Two of my favorite saints are St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Gregory the Great. One of my favorite movies is The Mission. The scripture passage that has a lot of inspiration for me is John 21:1-19. I want to be a priest because I feel Christ is calling me to bring His presence to our culture and those around me through being a priest. Two of my favorite spiritual books are The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen and The Shepherd Who Didn’t Run about Stanley Rother. The most interesting thing I have done was being able to live in Guatemala for immersion and getting to travel many places throughout the country. My vocation story in less than 7 words: maybe, no, okay, yes, thank you God! My favorite hobbies are playing golf, playing guitar, and audio engineering live sound or recording music.

AUSTIN YOUNG

Hi everyone! My name is John Austin Young, but you can call me Austin. I am 28 years old, going into 1st Theology; I am excited to be able to say that! I am from the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and have lived there most of my life. Two saints who stick out to me in this moment in my life are Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint John Paul II. In addition to loving the Holy Trinity and the Holy Family, I have a special place for Our Lady of Guadalupe. I love the movie Forrest Gump and make it a point to watch it a couple times a year; I feel like it has some great lessons in it. I love Hosea 11 in the Old Testament and one of my favorites from the New Testament is John 21:7. I want to be priest because I feel that God is calling me to this, and I love Him and want to do what He wants me to do. Two of my favorite spiritual books are No man Is An Island by Thomas Merton, and Mere Christianity. I will be an Uncle in a matter of days! Vocation Story: God loves us more than we understand. I love to fish, and when I feel like being a nerd, fly my model airplanes that don’t stay in one piece for long.
